On October 3rd, the IV International Open Karate of Póvoa de Varzim was presented, with 857 athletes from 7 different countries – Portugal, Spain, Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands, Morocco and Angola – with the strong presence of our neighbors with 56 athletes, divided by 6 teams. There will also come many athletes from a team in Luxembourg, that registered 34 athletes.
Altogether, there will be 96 teams represented, with athletes aged between 5 and 65 years old, who will compete in Kata and Kumite, surpassing the 1000 registrations, a record in this type of event in Portugal.
Some National and European champions will compete in our tatamis, such as Nuno Moreira, Vitalie Certan, Filipe Reis, Ana Cruz, Mauro Hernandez, André Vieira, among others.
Already with a lot of prestige reached in this type of organizations, the Center of Karate Aguçadourense (CKA) is the team that organizes the competition.
Since the first edition of this competition, in 2015, the organization’s concern has always been to provide a high level tournament, with the best conditions for athletes, technical teams and public. The number of registrations reached this year is a proof of the success of this organization. It is also a sign that karate is growing in Portugal.
The Karate Open this year has some new features, such as the offer of sportive massages to athletes during the event, and prizes for athletes who reach the podium in addition to the usual medals.
The event will take place on October 13th, in the municipal pavilion of Póvoa de Varzim.
